Much was expected of West Ham United at the start of the season.

Aaron Cresswell of England looks on after the FIFA 2018 World Cup Group F Qualifier between Lithuania and England at LFF Stadium on October 8, 2017 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

West Ham ace Aaron Cresswell spoke exclusively to the club’s official website about his team’s season so far, and suggested that a top eight finish should be the bare minimum that they achieve this term.

The Hammers currently sit in 12th spot in the Premier League table, six points adrift of seventh placed Wolves, with inconsistency undermining their hopes of finishing inside the Europa League spots.

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spent big during the summer window, bringing nine new faces into the London Stadium, but as things stand, almost all of them have flattered to deceive.

And Cresswell told the club’s official website how the Hammers need to finish strongly this season, with a top eight finish being the absolute bare minimum:

“You look at the stadium, and there’s 60,000 fans here. We should be in the top eight. Minimum. Over the course of the season you have ups and downs, but we want to finish strongly now over the rest of the season and hopefully push towards that top eight spot and see where it takes us.”

West Ham have a great opportunity to push on towards the top seven now, with five of their next six games coming against teams currently inside the bottom half of the Premier League table.

The Hammers also have to play Manchester City during that run, and if they manage to take at least 13 points from those outings, they will be in a great position from which to achieve Europa League football for next season.
