West Ham United have failed to win any of their first four Premier League games under Manuel Pellegrini’s stewardship.

Aaron Cresswell has admitted to West Ham United’s official website that the team’s confidence has been knocked by their poor start.

West Ham have failed to pick up a point from their first four Premier League matches, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side performing well below expectations.

West Ham were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers in their most recent outing, with Adama Traore scoring in the last minute.

And Cresswell said: “I wouldn’t say our confidence is high as we’ve lost four games, conceded ten goals and scored two. All we can do now is stick together and put things right. We’ve got enough character to do that.”

The comments show a huge change in mood at West Ham, after a pre-season where momentum seemed to be building.

West Ham’s players were quick to speak about how impressed they had been with Pellegrini over pre-season, but a poor start to the season means that the Hammers now need picking up.

Indeed, Cresswell, who is on a £50,000-a-week contract at the London Stadium, was one of the players who spoke before the campaign started about how positive the players were heading into the campaign.

He said on the club website: “There is a good atmosphere around the place at the minute. We spent 12 days around each other in Switzerland and got to meet all the new lads, then we had another week in Austria to keep building that spirit in the squad.

“They’ve all settled in really quickly and will definitely add a lot to the squad this season. We’ve brought in top quality players and there is going to be real competition for places all over the pitch, which is what you want if you want to be challenging at the right end of the league.

“It’s an exciting time to be at West Ham.”

West Ham have two weeks to get over their defeat to Wolves, before they are back in action again, but things are not about to get any easier for Pellegrini’s side.

West Ham’s next three league games come against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United, with the London side facing a huge challenge to turn their campaign around.
