Aaron Anselmino’s departure from Borussia Dortmund leaves a void that won’t be easily filled

That feeling appeared to be mutual, as the 20-year-old looked emotional while saying his farewells.

Chelsea’s decision to end Anselmino’s loan early reportedly didn’t sit well with the Dortmund hierarchy, especially given how late it came in the window.

Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel was a fan of playing behind Anselmino and enjoyed the way he played.

The defender, who just turned 20 earlier this month, played with good energy, intensity and physicality.

Speaking about his former teammate ahead of Dortmund’s clash against Inter Milan in the Champions League, he said via Get German Football News: “Aaron was a super guy, both on and off the pitch. I loved having his intensity and aggression working ahead of me.

“I’m thus very sad that we no longer have him. He was a great guy. It was both a nice and emotional event [when we learned that he was leaving us].”

Liam Rosenior comments on Aaron Anselmino’s situation after Chelsea recall

Even though Aaron Anselmino is back at Stamford Bridge, there’s no certainty yet about his future under Liam Rosenior.

The Blues manager was asked about his plans for the young defender during a press conference ahead of the club’s Champions League trip to Napoli.

He said: “He is due back on Thursday or Friday. Hopefully from there we can make his situation clearer. He’s had a great start to the season at Dortmund and I need to have a conversation with him about our future plans.”

Rosenior has plenty of options in central defence, with Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo and Josh Acheampong all available.

Anselmino will be up against some stiff competition if he does remain part of the squad. Given how well his loan spell was going in Germany, any decision that keeps him out of the line-up will draw plenty of questions.
