A player for whom Everton were reportedly told to pay £31 million last summer has had his contract terminated.
CM Jornal claimed that was the price Everton were quoted when they asked about signing the Benfica winger, Andrija Zivkovic.
A Bola reported last year that Zivokovic would be interested in a move to Everton, after scoring four goals and assisting 24 in 84 games since his 2016 move from Partizan Belgrade.
But the Serbian appeared just four times last season, across all competitions, and according to Record, his wages were a burden Benfica wanted rid of.
Whether or not Everton will revive their alleged interest in Zivkovic remains to be seen, given his recent lack of action, the arrival of Alex Iwobi late in the summer 2019 transfer window and the Toffees’ subsequent appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as manager.
As well as Iwobi, Everton’s options out wide include Anthony Gordon, Theo Walcott, Richarlison and Yannick Bolasie, although the latter player looks likely to leave Goodsion Park in the coming few weeks, which could leave room for another – especially one who’s free.
