Marcelo Pitaluga has bid farewell to Fluminense as the goalkeeper closes in on a dream move to Premier League champions Liverpool, writing on Instagram via Goal.
It speaks volumes about Jurgen Klopp’s coaching ability that arguably none of the players who have joined the Merseyside giants since his appointment in 2015 arrived as established ‘world-class’ footballers.
The three-time Champions League finalist has transformed Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and more from ‘good’ footballers into ‘great’ ones.
And the hope at Melwood is that teen sensation Pitaluga can follow in the footsteps of his compatriot and fellow shot-stopper Alisson Becker, once his move from Brazil to the North West of England is finalised.
Goal reports that Pitaluga will put pen to paper on long-term contract after a £2 million fee was agreed between Fluminense and Liverpool.
“I am very grateful to Fluminense,” the Brazil youth star writes.

“I spent 10 years at this club, from playing futsal, passing through until I reached the professional ranks. I have always been treated very well and had all the assistance necessary for my development, both personally and as an athlete.
“This opportunity will be very important to me. It was a unique opportunity.”
Pitaluga possesses a German passport, which will ease any fears that Liverpool might have had of seeing the deal collapse due to the lack of a work permit.
UOL reported last week that Pitaluga, who is set to sign a three-year deal and earn a big pay rise at Anfield, will be joined on Merseyside by his family, with the youngster’s father offered a job in Liverpool city centre.
