Celtic are set to sign Marvin Compper.

Celtic are close to completing their first deal ahead of the transfer window, with Marvin Compper set to sign.
The centre-back can become a real asset for Celtic, and what really stands out about him is his leadership skills, which can benefit the club on and off the pitch.
Compper’s former coaches have all talked highly of the defender, with Ralf Rangnick a particular fan.

Leipzig’s Ralf Rangnick told Sport.de in 2014: “I appreciate Marvin very much, because of his experience and ability to speak, he is an important integration factor for new players.”
This was identified back in 2008, with Hoffenheim manager Jan Schindelmeiser telling Abenblatt: “Marvin Compper has all the facilities to become a leader.”
His former youth coach Frank Leicht raved: “Marvin is intelligent and willing to learn, to work with him was fun.”

Compper is clearly a character who can benefit Celtic’s young squad, and this might just have been what they have really been missing in European competition.
While he cannot play in the Europa League ties against Zenit as he will be ineligible, he could be a big help to Brendan Rodgers’ side in their preparation for the fixture, and his leadership skills could stand the club in good stead beyond this season.
