An injury to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane could have serious implications for Tottenham Hotspur’s season.
It also provides an opportunity to players further down the pecking order like Vincent Janssen to stake their claim.
One intriguing option available to head coach Mauricio Pochettino is teenage striker Kazaiah Sterling.
Sterling has netted six goals in Tottenham’s FA Youth Cup run to the semi-finals, and has been elevated in the pecking order due to Shayon Harrison being sent out on loan to Yeovil.
It is a similar situation to that which Marcus Rashford found himself in at Manchester United last season.
He was fifth or sixth in the pecking order but due to injuries loans and suspensions he was handed a chance by Louis van Gaal, and seized it with four goals in his first two games.
He went on to establish himself as a first team player and even earned an England call-up to Euro 2016.
If Sterling could make half that impact then it would be huge for Tottenham, and there is very little downside to them giving him a chance.
He has recently caught the eye of Pochettino, taking part in first team training sessions over the past month, and his involvement could now be accelerated with Kane set for a spell on the sidelines.
