Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (28/04/21 at 10:30 pm) that reported Liverpool target, Kylian Mbappe, was a ‘shadow of himself’ against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The last time there was an all-English Champions League final, it involved Liverpool, and with Man City beating PSG 2-1 in Paris last night, they hold a significant advantage going into the second leg, as Chelsea would feel the same following their away goal in Madrid on Tuesday.
But whilst Mbappe has wowed supporters far and wide, it wasn’t his best game yesterday, as Liverpool legend, Carragher, issued this pretty forthright analysis of his performance.
“We didn’t see anything from Mbappe,” said Carragher. “Sometimes, someone isn’t at their best but you can see some glimpses. We didn’t even see that.
“It was almost like it was Neymar on his own taking the fight to Manchester City.
“We gave him the big build-up, and rightly so, he has been outstanding in the Champions League this season and his career so far.
“We were talking about the Ballon d’Or beforehand and he was a shadow of himself.”

Mbappe may have won the big one – the World Cup – with France, but on the domestic scene, the Champions League is the one he and big-spending PSG crave the most.
And if he cannot win that trophy, which PSG have never won in their history, at his current club then he will want to move somewhere where he can.
Liverpool are the most successful club in Europe on English shores and they would be a club that may well fulfil his potentials.
And with journalist, Duncan Castles, suggesting that the ‘world class’ star has told his friends that he would be willing to join Liverpool then that would be music to the ears for those on Merseyside.
Liverpool’s forward line needs refreshing and signing Mbappe would be a serious sign of intent.
And sign from the club’s under-pressure owners that they have the interests of the fans at heart, and not just that big wad of cash Florentino Pérez was offering them.
