Rob Dorsett has told Sky Sports News on Thursday morning that Liverpool midfielder, Jordan Henderson, has had ‘a bit of a setback’ on the injury front.
With all the talk about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, after the Liverpool defender had to hobble off for England yesterday, it seems as though he’s not the only worry for the Three Lions.
Henderson was due to get some minutes for England yesterday, during their 1-0 friendly win against Austria, but he didn’t appear from the bench.
Dorsett shared that Gareth Southgate ‘wanted to play him’ but he wasn’t able to because of a ‘setback’.
“On top of (Alexander-Arnold’s injury) that, we spoke to Gareth Southgate afterwards ‘why no Jordan Henderson?'” said Dorsett.
“Well, Jordan Henderson has been training well in the three or four days up here in the North East and with Liverpool for a few days at the end of the season as well.
“And Southgate wanted to play him last night. He needs some game time to prove his fitness. But he’s had a bit of a setback. That groin problem he has had since the middle of February.
“And it’s a setback. They decided to rest him. The scans came back clear for Henderson, so hopefully, he will be okay. But he’s not going to get much game time under his belt now. That final friendly against Romania up here in Middlesbrough on Sunday is his last chance to get some game time before the Euros.”

It now leaves Henderson with little time to properly prepare himself for Euro 2020 and that opener against Croatia.
There’s no way Henderson can now start, at the very least, the first two group games for England or even any group games at all given his lack of game time, fitness and sharpness.
Perhaps Southgate was better off selecting a James Ward-Prowse instead of the Liverpool captain because with concerns about Harry Maguire also, it doesn’t bode well for the squad if certain personnel aren’t at their best physically.
