The Whites have several fringe players out on loan at present.
Ipswich Town’s Toumani Diagouraga (L) in action against Wolves’ Dave Edwards
While the onus on Leeds United involves the current first team squad, it’s worth noting that the Whites do have players out on loan, some of whom are more than likely to return to the first team fold.
There are currently six players out on loan at present, and this is how they’re all getting on at their respective temporary clubs.
Giuseppe Bellusci – Empoli
The 27-year-old didn’t exactly perform incredibly last season at Elland Road, and more than a few fans were pleased to see the back of the centre back – even on a temporary basis. The Italian returned to his native country in the summer with Empoli, and has been a mainstay in the side’s battle to avoid the drop. Currently, Empoli are 17th – one place above the relegation zone – and Bellusci has had a mixed time in his 26 games so far, scoring once against Crotone.
Lee Erwin – Oldham Athletic
By and large, Oldham have been quite impressed with the 23-year-old striker, with Erwin finding the net eight times in 34 appearances for the Latics – including three in his last two games for the League One stugglers. Oldham have a real chance of going down to League Two, with the club just three points above the drop zone, and they will be hoping that Erwin can continue his purple patch to fire the club away from danger.
Leeds United’s Jordan Botaka applauds the fans after the match
Jordan Botaka – Charlton Athletic
Botaka has been Charlton Athletic’s impact sub in League One so far this season, with 15 out of his 23 appearances for the Addicks coming from the bench. Generally however, the winger hasn’t made much of an impression at The Valley, with the DR Congo man scoring just twice this season – and those two goal have come in his last five games for the club. Going by this loan spell, it would be a surprise if Leeds kept him beyond the summer.
Jack McKay – Airdrieonians
The 20-year-old Scottish striker returned to his homeland in the January transfer window with Scottish League One side Airdrieonians, who find themselves outside of the play-offs on goal difference. So far, it seems McKay isn’t doing a lot to swing the table in Airdrieonians’ favour, with just one goal in 10 appearances so far. In fact, in McKay’s most recent match for the club, he was hauled off after 27 minutes.
Burton Albion’s Luke Murphy applauds fans after the game
Luke Murphy – Burton Albion
Murphy hadn’t played a minute of league football for Leeds boss Garry Monk this season, so a move away from Elland Road was perhaps inevitable. Nigel Clough took the midfielder to Burton Albion on loan in January, and Murphy has already become a key part in the Brewers’ side which seems determined to avoid relegation. Murphy has featured 12 times for Burton, scoring once, but his presence in midfield has made Clough’s side look a lot stronger.
Toumani Diagouraga – Ipswich Town
After a fairly horrific outing for Leeds in a 3-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers back in August, Diagouraga didn’t feature again for Monk, opening the door to a January departure. Now at Ipswich Town until the end of the season, it seems as if the 29-year-old’s luck hasn’t improved, as in his nine appearances for Mick McCarthy’s side, Diagouraga has largely been a liability in midfield. As Ipswich are only five points above the drop zone, they are far from safe , and Town fans will be hoping Diagouraga steps up his game for the final stretch of the season.
