Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Pat Nevin has been discussing Nat Phillips after his performance against AC Milan.

The centre-back came back into the starting XI against the Serie A giants and it’s fair to say that he held his own at San Siro.

The defender put in a commanding display keeping the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic largely at bay, and it’s fair to say that Nevin was impressed.

The pundit described Phillips’ performance as ‘superb’ claiming that he looked very quick against Milan.

What’s been said about Phillips?

Nevin was full of praise for Phillips.

“Neco Williams had a very interesting game and he had a real confidence about him on the ball. I actually think Phillips was superb as well with aggression to his play and he actually showed a real pace about him. Tyler Morton also catches the eye because he can control the game and he’s very neat and tidy on the ball,” Nevin said.

No slouch

Phillips may have been described as an aerial monster in the past by Jurgen Klopp, but let’s not discredit his other physical attributes.

The centre-half may not be one to go on lung-busting runs or to dribble down the wings, but he’s no slouch.

We saw last season that he was able to deal with even the quickest players in the Premier League, while his sharp mind means that he’s always quick to move the ball and play the right passes.

Nevin is absolutely right, Phillips was superb against Milan and he showed a real pace in Italy.
