Alasdair Gold has shared that there has been a tactical ‘emphasis’ on ‘low crosses’ during Tottenham Hotspur’s training sessions under Ange Postecoglou.
With Ange Postecoglou now in the dugout, the more attack-minded coach is looking to implement his own style on this Tottenham Hotspur side that declined under Antonio Conte last season.
During Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Australia, Thailand and Singapore, Football London journalist Gold was able to see the players and coaches first-hand in training.
And he noticed a deliberate tactic of the players being told to put ‘low crosses’ into the box when they were near the byline, as he told his own YouTube channel.
Last season, Harry Kane, who hit 30 during the Premier League campaign, scored the most number of headed goals.
But Postecoglou clearly sees something that he thinks he can exploit in the English game, after his success in the colours of Celtic.

“Other thing that I noticed and I noticed this in a lot of the training sessions as well,” said Gold. “There was a real focus, and I saw this carry into the games, of low crosses.
“It’s quite ironic that Harry Kane scored the most headed goals in a season last season because, in training sessions, they do these bits where the attacker’s attack, attack, attack and attack, then when they get to a certain point, the defence stops that they are playing against.
“It’s like an 11 v 11 walkthrough almost. The defence stops, and the winger or fullback has to then get to the byline, cut the ball back and then someone in the middle has to smash the ball into the back of the net.
“It’s not curled into the box high, it’s not any kind of high crosses. There is the occasional high cross in a match – keep an eye out, for this emphasis on low crossing.”

Tottenham’s change in style under Postecoglou
Whilst Spurs had to go through a number of poor performances last season, one thing that annoyed fans the most is the abject and sleep-walking style of play.
Yes, they have had two trophy-winning managers in the dugout, but their defensive-minded systems just haven’t fitted what the club is all about.
Well, put the results aside, one thing is for sure, with Postecoglou now in the dugout, the entertainment is going to be brought back to Hotspur Way ahead of the new campaign.
