Glasgow Rangers’ defeat to Aberdeen wiped out their cup final excuse.

Rangers’ defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final was a tough one for fans to take.
However there was a ready made excuse, with Alfredo Morelos suspended and Kyle Lafferty ineligible.
The notion was that if Rangers had their top two strikers available, they would have wiped the floor with the Dons.
This ‘myth’ was exposed as wrong last night, with Aberdeen going to Ibrox and winning – with both Morelos and Lafferty featuring.
Morelos let himself down with a red card, while Lafferty was lucky not to receive one himself.

Neither player could break Aberdeen down as the away side earned hard fought 1-0 win, just as they did in the semi-final.
No longer can Rangers complain that the semi-final was not a true reflection of the two sides.
Let’s not forget that Morelos caused himself to miss that game with a needless booking in the previous round.
Last night’s latest show of ill discipline demonstrates he has not learned his lesson.
