Speaking on his State of the Union Podcast, former USA defender, Alexi Lalas has been discussing Christian Pulisic’s future and a potential move to Leeds United.

It looks as though Pulisic’s race is run at Chelsea as the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling have moved ahead of him in the pecking order, and this summer he could be on the move.

Lalas was picking out the teams he’d most like to see Pulisic join, and he said that he’d be keen to see the winger at Leeds United due to the number of Americans already plying their trade at Elland Road.

Pulisic to Leeds

Lalas made the case for Pulisic to join Leeds.

“This is familiarity, this is a step down within the EPL, and I can argue in different ways, but when it comes to Leeds, we know this is a team that will struggle and this is a team that need something. To caveat this, this is if Leeds stay up. I do not want Pulisic playing in the Championship, but if Leeds stay up this is a potential move,” Lalas said.

“He has his friends there, he has an American connection there. It would be a different environment because Leeds are this team that struggles every year to be a medium level team and there may be some comfort and that step down may provide him an opportunity to do some different teams.”

A good move

As Lalas says, this would be a step down for Pulisic, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it would be a bad move by any stretch of the imagination.

At Leeds, he’d be able to play with less pressure and more freedom as the team’s key player, while he would have no problems settling amongst his American colleagues.

Unfortunately, Leeds are in danger of being relegated this season, but if they do manage to stay up, this could be a great signing.
