Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT (09/08/21 at 9:15 am) that if Tottenham sign Lautaro Martinez then they are going to have to pay ‘£60-70 million’.

The TV and Radio pundit shared that ‘a player of that ability’ isn’t going to come cheap after it was suggested to him that Martinez could be Harry Kane’s replacement at Tottenham.

Inter Milan are seemingly already close to selling one of their prized assets in Romelu Lukaku and there are rumours that the likes of Spurs are now sniffing around Martinez’s talents.

Sherwood was asked about his former club bringing in the 23-year-old this summer and he sent this warning.

“I think you have to get them in before,” said Sherwood. “Once they get the pot of money they are going to get for Harry Kane, people are going to take advantage of that.

“If it’s a player of the ability and reputation of Martinez then I am not sure they are going to get him any cheaper, anyway.

“He’s going to be a lot of money. Martinez will be up there at £60 or £70 million. It depends what they are going to get for Kane.”

Given that this is Fabio Paratici’s first summer transfer window, he is doing a pretty strong job in the circumstances that have been laid out to him.

The new face in Tottenham’s dugout – Nuno Espirito Santo – can be added to that list as well, along with those paying their well-earned money to support the club.

But if the club can bring in a player of Martinez’s qualities, whether to play alongside or replace Kane, then it’s some coup from the club.

Martinez scored 17 league goals and supplied ten assists last season (transfermarkt), as Inter were crowned Serie A champions.
