All the talk regarding new Tottenham contracts at the moment is whether or not, Harry Kane will sign a new deal – but surely, given his recent form for club and country, it is just as important for Spurs to tie down Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Kane is now inside the final two years of his contract at Tottenham. Of course, he is Tottenham’s best player and it goes without saying that Spurs will be desperate to tie him down to a new deal. Whether that happens, is another question.

But Hojbjerg’s form has made him just as undroppable as Kane in Antonio Conte’s Tottenham system. He has played every single minute of Tottenham’s 2022-23 season. He has already played twice during the international break.

During Denmark’s defeat to Croatia, and a 2-0 win over France, he started and finished both. His undenying, relentless work rate and stamina have made him crucial to club and country. Hojbjerg’s £100k-a-week deal at Spurs ends in 2025.

Just as important for Spurs to tie down Hojbjerg, as it is to keep Kane

While there is no immediate danger regarding the length of Hojbjerg’s deal, clubs are beginning to notice just how good he has been so far this season. Danish media say that Real Madrid could make a £58m move for Hojbjerg.

Bought for a bargain £15million from Southampton, he is one of Tottenham’s best buys in the past decade. Without a doubt. In terms of players that definitely start for the club when fit, Hojbjerg is right at the top of the Conte tree.

Alongside Kane, Son Heung-min Hugo Lloris. His place is probably more cemented than Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. With Madrid sniffing, Tottenham must give Hojbjerg a new deal – it is just as important, as it is to get Kane tied down.
