The Whites should consider Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew.
Monk with his then-Swansea boss Rodgers. They’re now the managers of Leeds and Celtic, respectively.
Leeds United are looking for a new central defender, a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post claims, and as luck would have it, there’s one of those going at Celtic.
On Wednesday, Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers expressed a concern that Charlie Mulgrew might not extend his Parkhead contract (Telegraph), which is due to expire this month.
A Scotland international with Champions League experience and five league titles to his name, Leeds would be foolish not to explore the possibility of signing him.
Mulgrew’s scored an impressive 29 goals in 208 appearances for Celtic
Not only would the 30-year-old, who’s captained Celtic on several occasions in the absence of Scott Brown, balance out a predominantly right-footed central defensive pool, he can also chip in with the odd goal, play as a defensive midfielder and provide cover at left-back – where only another Charlie (Taylor) currently exists.
Though Rodgers insists he wants to keep Mulgrew, the defender’s importance has waned throughout the past two campaigns, with injuries hindering his progress.
The departure of Wootton has left Leeds with only Liam Cooper, Sol Bamba and Giuseppe Bellusci as senior centre-backs
And the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man may be weighing up a change of scenery, after suffering abuse from some sections of the Bhoys support early last season (Sun).
Few Championship clubs possess the stature to snare players from Celtic, though Leeds United are certainly one. New boss Garry Monk will know that and should pounce on any uncertainty.
