‘A master’: Pundit thinks ‘scary’ Leicester player is better than Tottenham star

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is ‘absolutely flying’ at the moment and not even Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane can rival him for the title of Britain’s best striker, John Aldridge told Sky Sports.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out why the Liverpool legend is dreading the idea of Vardy running riot at Anfield after the international break.

With Joe Gomez joining Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines, this is not exactly a great time for the reigning Premier League champions to be going head-to-head with last season’s Golden Boot winner.

Especially when you consider that Vardy, the ultimate ‘man for the big occasion’, has a fine record against the Reds – netting seven times in 11 games against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

He has also netted a winner at Arsenal and a hat-trick against Manchester City in the last few weeks.

So Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips, who could be thrown in at the deep end next Saturday, will have a huge task on their hands looking to stop a man who, according to Liverpool legend Aldridge, is even more fearsome than Kane right now.

“Vardy is absolutely flying and that’s a bit scary,” said the 1988 First Division champion.

“If you’ve got a young recruit playing centre-half, it’s going to be difficult for the young lads with the way he peels off, plays on the shoulder, drifts out wide.

“(Vardy is) a master of it. At the moment, he’s the best centre-forward in the country and even above Harry Kane.”

Vardy might forever be associated for his fondness of ‘skittle vodka’ but the 33-year-old is ageing like a slightly more sophisticated tipple these days, having found the net eight times in seven league matches in 2020/21.

That is one more than Kane, although the Spurs skipper has been playing in a slightly more withdrawn, almost playmaker-esque role; a positional shift reflected by his division-high tally of eight assists.
