Former Rangers defender Bruno Alves has told the Daily Record that Porto will be getting a bargain if they sign striker Alfredo Morelos for just £20m this summer.
Reports in Portugal by A Bola claim the Liga NOS giants are exploring a summer transfer for the Colombian. Morelos has already agreed to personal terms with Porto ahead of any move to the Estadio do Dragao, as well.
But Alves admits it would be a change from the norm for Porto to spend the near-£20m Rangers are demanding for Morelos. He believes his long-term club would only spend close to that if they are convinced the 25-year-old’s value will increase.

Morelos is currently away from Rangers on international duty at the Copa America, after which his Porto move could be finalised. It would mark the end of a four-year stay at Ibrox for the centre-forward, who former Gers teammate Alves feels would be value for money.
“Given his quality and what he’s been doing in the last few years, then I would say the reported fee of £20m isn’t a lot for Alfredo Morelos,” Alves said. “It’s still a lot of money for Porto to pay but if you want that kind of quality, then that’s what you have to pay.
“If Porto want to buy him, then they have to pay good money because he’s a player with a lot of value and is a Colombian international. In today’s market, then, £20m isn’t a lot but for Porto, it’s a lot.
“They don’t pay big fees like Benfica, for example. If Porto pay £20m, then they are thinking about how much they can increase the value to sell him on.”
Rangers should ask for more to sell Alves admired Morelos to Porto
While Alves admits Porto spending £20m on Morelos would be surprising, Rangers can ask for more. The Colombian is a much more level-headed player these days to the one that saw red cards on a regular basis.
He has also proven a consistent goal threat in the Premiership with his return of 12 last term his joint-worst. That’s despite various issues keeping him from regular game time at stages.
Morelos is also under contract at Rangers for another two years, so Steven Gerrard should have no issue holding firm against interest from Porto in his Colombia international.
