Paul Robinson has told The Football Show (06/10/20 at 10:55 am) on Sky Sports that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho gets ‘a lot of unfair press’.

The former Spurs goalkeeper think Mourinho has had a strong start to the season and has purchased well during this summer transfer window, but still feels he gets too much criticism.

Whilst Tottenham opened their season with a defeat to high-flying Everton, they have since gone on an unbeaten run, including knocking Chelsea out of the League Cup, qualifying for the Europa League and putting six past Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Robinson praised those at Spurs, both in the boardroom and on the touchline, for the work that they have done so far.

“There is a lot of optimism and belief around Tottenham, at the moment,” Robinson told Sky Sports. “I think the way the chairman has backed the manager in this window has been fantastic to see.

“Spurs have made no secret about the difficult financial climate that everybody is living in, at the moment, and the way that they have struggled. But yet again Daniel Levy has backed the manager.

“Jose Mourinho was brought in for a reason. There was a bit of unrest. He quite often gets a lot of unfair press and he’s an easy target at times, especially with Spurs. But you look now at what they have done. The results they have had in recent weeks and the signings they have made.

“As I said Jose has been an easy target for a lot of criticism.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings

    £15 million; Southampton

  2. Joe Hart

  3. Matt Doherty

    £13 million; Wolves

  4. Sergio Reguilon

  5. Gareth Bale

  6. Carlos Vinicius

  7. Joe Rodon

There is a lot of positive energy flying around Tottenham, and even though they have had to deal with a heavy fixture load, Mourinho has used his experience to navigate his side onto the right path.

It can get even better for the Spurs fans because Gareth Bale is yet to be added to the fiery and quite dominant mix of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Mourinho will be expected to secure Champions League football at the end of the season and the crazy start to the campaign will only help his team along the way.
