The striker has rarely featured from the start in Rangers colours this season.
The uber-reliable form of the evergreen Kenny Miller may have ensured that Rangers remain in the hunt for European football next season though it hasn’t exactly helped Martyn Waghorn put his stamp on the team in the Scottish top flight.
With the 37-year-old still a regular starter, Mark Warburton only trusted the former Sunderland youngster with eight league starts all season. Nonetheless, Waghorn reaffirmed his commitment to the club in December, as reported by the Daily Record, despite delays over a new contract and links with Derby County and Bristol City.
However, with Warburton now out of the picture, could Waghorn benefit from a clean slate under new management? He may have found the net just seven times in 21 appearances in all competitions but he’s only featured for a full 90 minutes on three occasions.

And, what’s more, he’s found the back of the net five times in those three encounters, including Sunday’s cup win against Morton.
After all, Warburton’s frequent chopping and changing meant momentum was at a premium within the squad; a factor Waghorn believes has had a detrimental effect on morale.
Was ironic claim the final nail in Mark Warburton’s Rangers coffin?
“You could say [we’ve underperformed],” the forward told the Daily Record. “It’s been difficult one.
“People don’t know if they are playing, they are in and out. There has been a lot of uncertainty at times.”

With the club currently managerless, the uncertainty is only set to continue.
But now that the reign of Warburton is over, Waghorn can harbour some hope that the second half of the season offers far more opportunities than the first.
