Antonio Conte has claimed that Davinson Sanchez has ‘a lot of space for improvement’ at Tottenham, as he told Football London.
The Spurs boss added that Sanchez has the qualities to become a ‘top defender’, but he needs to change and improve on his concentration in order to reach that level.
Signed by Mauricio Pochettino from Ajax in 2017, the 25-year-old has had an indifferent time in north London during that period.
In spates, he has showcased his talent, but it could be argued, for large parts, he has been error-prone.
But, under Conte, it has been a different story for the now more consistent hard-hitting centre-back, as his manager sent him this message.
“He has a lot of space for improvement,” said Conte. “Good physically, fast, technically.
“He has the right characteristics to become a top defender but needs to be focused from start to end. This is the gap to him becoming a top defender.”

The defensive qualities have always been there for Sanchez, he just hasn’t been able to consistently do the business.
But playing in a back three seems to suit him and having those extra defensive brains around him helps also.
Not forgetting that Conte is a genius at bringing out every bit of quality from a player.
It seems as though he is doing it with Sanchez, it’s just a case of the player doing it over a longer period of time.
