Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been discussing Aaron Ramsdale after his fantastic debut season for Arsenal.
The former Sheffield United goalkeeper arrived in north London for big money over the summer, and at the time, there were plenty of fans and pundits who questioned this deal.
Ramsdale arrived at Arsenal off the back of two relegations, and, in all honesty, it looked as though the Gunners had overspent on the 24-year-old.
However, Ramsdale quickly proved himself to be a goalkeeper worthy of being Arsenal’s number one, and Wilson has actually gone as far as to name his former Bournemouth teammate as his Young Player of the Season.
What’s been said?
Wilson spoke about Ramsdale.
“Young Player of the Season? For me, I’d probably go for Ramsdale at Arsenal. I just feel that coming from a team like Bournemouth and Sheffield United with two relegations, there were a lot of question marks raised when he moved to Arsenal, even from myself who had played with him before, I thought it was a step too far, but he’s proven everyone wrong, pulled off some amazing saves, so I’d say him to be honest,” Wilson said.

Unexpected star of the season
Whether or not Ramsdale should be the Young Player of the Season or not is up for debate. After all, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been utterly fantastic, but one thing is for sure, he’s been one of the breakout stars of this campaign.
Almost overnight, Ramsdale went from being relegation fodder to being a genuine candidate for the England number one shirt.
Arsenal saw something in Ramsdale that hardly anyone else did last summer, and now, their decision to splash the cash on the goalie has been more than justified.
