Reported Everton and Liverpool target Mohammed Kudus could be ready for the ‘next step’ according to Nordsjaelland sporting director Jan Laursen, who tells Bold that there are a number of clubs knocking on the door.
While this 19-year-old midfielder is already being compared to Michael Essien, this might have more to do with his Ghanaian passport than his style of play.
In contrast to the former Chelsea and Real Madrid enforcer, Kudus does his best work in the attacking half rather than the defensive one.
In 28 games, the teenager has scored an impressive 12 goals from the middle of the park while also marking his Ghana debut with another well-taken effort in a 2-0 victory against South Africa in November.
And, after being nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award, interest from abroad continues to increase.
Calciomercato reported in June that Premier League champions Liverpool were his preferred destination while Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked via FootMercato.
“There has been speculation since he broke through (at Nordsjaelland),” Laursen says.
“In the winter there were clubs knocking, but then the whole world was put on hold with the crisis. Now we have started playing again, and then the door is knocked upon again.
“There is a lot of interest and great focus, but you have not changed (clubs) until a press release is signed. And we are not there.
“It was on the cards when we extended (a contract) with Kudus that this season we should see if he could take the next step.”
The African sensation has just one year left on his contract at Nordsjaelland with Everton and Newcastle also linked via Het Belang van Limburg and GhanaSoccernet.
