‘A lot of fouls in him’: Hasselbaink claims Tottenham 25-year-old is impressing him

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told Sky Sports Football (29/09/20 at 9:40 pm) that he’s been impressed by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and he’s a player who has ‘a lot of fouls in him’.

The former Premier League hitman also added that the 25-year-old was a player that Spurs ‘needed’ because of his ability off-the-ball in breaking up play and turning over the possession.

Hojbjerg switched the sunny South Coast of Southampton over the summer and moved to North London in a bid to take the next step in his career.

Whilst other Tottenham signings have had more attention for obvious reasons, former Chelsea striker, Hasselbaink explained why he’s a fan of the new Dane in Jose Mourinho’s midfield.

“I like him,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.”I think he’s a player that Spurs needed. He gives the balance.

“He is one of those players who likes winning balls and stopping the counter-attack. Stopping the transition. They needed that.

“He has got a lot of fouls in him. Just stop [the opposition] and you need that, at times. Players who are not going to go out of the tackle. Yes, I have been impressed with him, definitely at Southampton and I can understand why Spurs have taken him.”

Whilst one Dane left the building in Christian Eriksen last January, another in Hojbjerg arrived this summer, but they have two contrasting styles.

Eriksen is more of a ball-carrier, artist in the middle of the park and someone who picks those small pockets to create his magic.

Tottenham’s new man in the middle would have complemented Eriksen’s style because he has a more combative nature about him, but that will be seen on the international stage now rather than in North London.
