Anton Ferdinand has shared that the West Ham United fans he is speaking to are ‘happy’ Mark Noble has been appointed as the club’s new Sporting Director.
The former centre-back made it clear that it’s a ‘very hard job’ Noble has taken on, but he is excited about what lies ahead for the former midfielder.
After hanging up his boots in the summer, West Ham’s one-club man has wasted no time in getting himself back in Claret and Blue colours.
Noble has perhaps surprised many by deciding to head towards the boardroom because it’s not the norm.
Usually, when players retire, they either become pundits or head back to the training ground to coach.
But not Noble, who will now become a key figure in recruiting players for the club, as Ferdinand reacted to that move, as he told Sky Sports News.
“Let’s not beat around the bush, it’s a very, very hard job he is taking on,” said Ferdinand. “A job with a lot of responsibility.
“But if there is a man that can do it, and do it well, a man who knows the club and what it takes to play for West Ham United, then it’s Mark Noble.
“To have someone like that, at the helm, with recruitment and bringing players in and making sure the structure is right, then I don’t think we could have picked a better person, for me as a fan and fans alike.
“The fans I am speaking to, a lot of them are happy with this appointment. The fact that Noble knows the club inside and out. He will do everything in his power to make sure that West Ham are bringing in the right players.”
LEARNING ON THE JOB
Well, Noble will be learning on the job when he officially takes to the hotseat at the London Stadium and starts to work alongside manager, David Moyes.
This is a brave call by all concerned with the club, because of Noble’s inexperience, but it’s one that could massively pay off in the long run.
In terms of relationships with those at the club, Noble can already tick those boxes, it’s just a case of how he will deal with the rest.
