Speaking on the Sky Sports Football YouTube channel, John McGinn has been full of praise for Emiliano Martinez.
McGinn was playing a game where he had to guess his teammates’ ratings in FIFA 22, and interestingly, Martinez is Aston Villa’s joint-highest rated player on the game.
McGinn wasn’t too shocked to hear that Martinez was up there with Villa’s best, stating that he’s been an amazing signing from Arsenal.

McGinn had nothing but good things to say about Martinez.
“Oh, he’s brilliant, he’s been an amazing signing, I think there was a lot of criticism when he left Arsenal, I don’t think they were too pleased which was good for us and he’s just signed a new deal so he’ll be here for a while yet,”
Game-changer
Emi Martinez has been an absolute game changer of a signing for Aston Villa.
Let’s not forget, two seasons ago Aston Villa stayed up by the skin of their teeth, and their cause absolutely was not helped by their goalkeeping situation.
There’s a reason Villa used four different goalkeepers that season, Orjan Nyland, Jed Steer and Pepe Reina were all below par, while Tom Heaton was very unlucky with injury, although there’s plenty to be said about his form at Villa as well.
The Midlands club, quite simply, had to get a good goalkeeper in that summer, and Martinez has more than delivered.
The Argentine has been outstanding, and while Arsenal fans may have criticised the move at the time, it’s fair to say this transfer has worked out well for all parties with the Gunners now having a fantastic goalkeeper of their own in the shape of Aaron Ramsdale.
