Leeds take on Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Steve Bruce the head coach

Steve Bruce will want to prove a point along with winning three points this weekend when Sheffield Wednesday take on Leeds United.

After all, he could very easily be Leeds boss right now.

The Telegraph reported last June that Leeds made enquiries with Bruce, as a back-up option for Marcelo Bielsa.

The Bielsa negotiations took weeks to conclude and Leeds were reportedly ready to step up interest in Bruce if there was a setback.

The Telegraph reported how Bruce, who was at Aston Villa at the time, may have been tempted by the chance to manage the Whites.

Fortunately for Leeds, Bielsa accepted their offer, and he has led them to second in the Championship with five games to go.

This is the first time he will manage against Bruce this season.

Bruce was sacked by Aston Villa and replaced by Dean Smith before Leeds played the Villans in December.

He took charge at Sheffield Wednesday in February and has turned their form around.

Now he has a chance to topple Leeds’ promotion bid. Bielsa probably won’t give it a second thought, but Bruce could have an extra point to prove.
