Given their current Championship adventure, it’s time to look back on Aston Villa’s famous unbeaten run just a few years ago.

Back in the 2008/09 season, things were alot different around Villa Park. With Martin O’Neill at the helm and a UEFA Cup campaign to speak of, expectations were high around the club. Whilst they did not quite achieve the top four finish they desired, what Aston Villa did do was create some history.

From December to February, the Villains went on a fantastic run of seven straight away victories in the Premier League. Some would argue it is the pinnacle of their recent history in the top flight, and it included victories over Arsenal, Everton, West Ham, Hull, Sunderland, Portsmouth and Blackburn.

Seven years on it seems baffling to think that they were able to accomplish something like this, especially given their situation right now in comparison. Regardless, Villa fans will look back on those days with great fondness with their phenomenal success coming with one of their greatest squads in recent memory.

John Carew, James Milner, Gareth Barry and more were all instrumental in guiding the club to the success, and thinking about their current team alongside the 2008/09 starting XI could be quite painful for the Midlands side.
