Gary Neville has suggested a theory on Sky Sports Premier League (2:40pm, May 16, 2021) why Tanguy Ndombele is not starting for Tottenham Hotspur under Ryan Mason.
Ndombele was a regular for Tottenham when Jose Mourinho was in charge and was playing pretty well too.
However, the 24-year-old midfielder is struggling to get into the team under interim-manager Mason.
The France international midfielder was left out of Tottenham’s starting lineup against Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.
Former Manchester United midfielder Neville was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he has suggested a theory why Mason is constantly snubbing the midfielder.
Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (2:40pm, May 16, 2021): “When you watch Ndombele, he takes quite a lot of touches on the ball. If you want rhythm in the game, in terms of one, two touch passes through, you feel he just stays on it a little too long at times, not quite sure whether he is a central midfield player or he acts as a number 10.”
Ndombele is a midfielder who can play in a number of positions and can do a number of jobs.
The Frenchman can play in a deeper role in midfield and can also be deployed in a more advanced position.
There is no doubt that when on form the midfielder is absolutely brilliant to watch.
Earlier this month, Tottenham interim-manager Mason said that Ndombele has been struggling with his fitness.
Perhaps that is a reason why the Frenchman has not been playing regularly.
Ndombele has actually been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain where he could reunite with his former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.
It would be a huge blow for Spurs if Ndombele leaves the club at the end of the season.
