Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has opened up about his failed to attempt to leave the Foxes this summer, with Arsenal chasing to sign the 25-year-old for the majority of the transfer window.

Speaking to the press on international duty via GBeNeFN, the Premier League superstar revealed that he has no regrets about staying with Leicester this summer despite strong reports that he wanted to sign for Arsenal, with the north London side linked with Tielemans for what was basically the entire summer.

Arsenal were eager to sign a midfielder in the mould of Granit Xhaka as a long-term replacement for the Swiss international, however, the Gunners failed to land anyone despite strong links to Tielemans, who is now reportedly wanted by Newcastle United.

With a reported price tag of just £25m, Arsenal easily could have made an offer for the Leicester maestro given how unlikely it is now that the midfielder renews his current deal with the King Power Stadium side, with Tielemans’ current contract set to expire next summer.

Indeed, the January transfer window could see Arsenal reignite their interest in Tielemans, but given that the midfielder’s contract situation will be down to just six months, more clubs will be sure to be chasing the former AS Monaco star, who could spark a bidding war of sorts.

Despite the links, Tielemans himself has said he has no regrets about not leaving Leicester this summer, with the midfielder saying: “That I didn’t leave? I was also able to easily turn that switch. I have no regrets, my family is also well in Leicester. We just need a little more luck and confidence.”

Arsenal’s start to the Premier League season has been sensational, with the Gunners top after winning six of their seven opening matches, and adding Tielemans to their squad in January will be an ideal way to improve the squad and to give them that extra edge in closing out the campaign.

After all, the Gunners will want to finish in the top-four this season, and adding quality in January, such as Tielemans, could be the move needed to get Arsenal over the line it what is slowly evolving into a historic season for the north London club.
