Jose Mourinho has admitted that there is ‘always a little bit of sadness’ and ‘a little bit of frustration’ at those Tottenham players who don’t start matches, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.
Spurs recorded a late 1-0 win at West Brom on Sunday, with Harry Kane scoring the goal to push the North London club second in the table.
Attacking trio Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso and Carlos Vinicius were the players brought on as substitutes by Mourinho at the Hawthorns.
Mourinho shared how those players are proving that it is now becoming ‘expensive’ to get into this Tottenham team.
“There is always a little bit of sadness and a little bit of frustration for the boys that don’t start matches,” said Mourinho. “In the end, they all work the same. They all give everything and try to be on the team sheet.
“But it’s getting very expensive to be there, and you could see the way Lucas, Gio [Lo Celso] and Vinicius when they come into the game.
“You could also see the way with the people that were on the bench and stayed on the bench was leading the game. We are a team and my boys are behaving like a team.”
Under Mauricio Pochettino, whilst Spurs had a high-quality starting XI, they struggled with depth and that extra spice from the bench.
But with a strong summer behind them, they now have a strong bench and players such Davinson Sanchez and Dele Alli struggling to get into the matchday squad.
This all bodes well for Spurs because if they are to lift some silverware then they need this competition within the squad.
