Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the Champions League draw.
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he wanted Liverpool to avoid Borussia Dortmund and Juventus during the last 16 Champions League draw which took place on Monday.
The Reds were pitted against German giants Bayern Munich instead, with the first leg to be played at Anfield in February before the return leg takes place at the Allianz Arena.
Both Dortmund and Juventus are flying high in their respective leagues this season and they boast some of the best attacking talents in Europe – England’s Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, to name a few.
Prior to Liverpool’s Premier League encounter against Wolves on Friday night, Klopp spoke honestly about the Champions League draw and why he thinks Juventus are the favourites.
“To be honest for that round there was only two clubs I didn’t fancy really and that was Dortmund and Juventus,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference, as posted by Liverpool’s official website.
“To me, they (Juventus) are the favourites. So experienced because the age group they are, the defence it is maybe the last chance for them. Those were the two clubs, all the rest I had no problem.”
Both Dortmund and Juventus topped their respective groups during the opening round of the Champions League, with the Italian club suffering a home defeat to Manchester United.
For Liverpool, they secured second spot behind Paris Saint-Germain, with the French club drawn against Manchester United.
Klopp will be hoping his team can go one better during this campaign and lift a record sixth European Cup after a heartbreaking defeat to Real Madrid last season.
But for now, his focus will be on the Premier League and looking to maintain their slender lead at the top of the table ahead of their trip to high-flying Wolves.
