Klopp comments on Mourinho’s sacking

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued his thoughts on Manchester United sacking Jose Mourinho.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hopes Jose Mourinho remembers how “unbelievably successful” he has been following his departure from Manchester United.

The Old Trafford club confirmed on their official website on Tuesday morning that Mourinho had been sacked as manager after two and a half years in the job.

Ironically, it was the defeat to Klopp’s Liverpool that sealed Mourinho’s fate after his side were comprehensively beaten at the weekend, as the Premier League leaders opened up a mammoth 19-point lead on their rivals.

Speaking ahead of the Reds’ trip to Wolves on Friday night, Klopp offered his support to his recently-sacked counterpart and stated that he will always be a winner.

“He (Jose) is a very competitive guy,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference, as posted on Liverpool’s official website.

“Very ambitious. He has all my respect. He has been unbelievably successful and I can imagine in the last few months, especially, was not a joy for nobody. You face all these questions every day, that’s the problem.

“Apart from that, nobody can take away all the things he won. Nothing can take that away. I wish he has that in his mind and not the few other things which have happened in the last few months because he is an outstanding manager.”

During his time at Old Trafford, Mourinho lifted the League Cup and the Europa League, but he was unable to win the Premier League title with the Red Devils.

Last season, United finished as runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but this campaign has seen the three-time European Cup winners fall further behind their rivals.

Following that defeat at Anfield on Sunday, sixth-placed United are now 19 points behind current leaders Liverpool and 11 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Mourinho has managed the likes of Porto, Real Madrid and Chelsea, winning 20 major honours, including two Champions League trophies and eight league titles.
