Troy Deeney has suggested on TalkSport Breakfast (21/10/20 at 8:15 am) that Tottenham striker Harry Kane isn’t someone who is naturally seen as ‘world-class’ when he should be.

The Watford captain believes Kane’s goal tally is ‘a joke’ and there is no doubt that he is in that ‘world-class’ bracket even if he feels he gets disrespected.

Kane netted a brace over the weekend and provided an assist to continue his near-complete start to the season, which has seen him combine his deadly sharp-shooting with his precise playmaking.

Deeney believes whenever someone considers a player like Kane as ‘world-class’, they then tend to always put ‘people above him’ to downplay him.

“That world-class debate is interesting all the time,” Deeney told TalkSport. “Unless your name is foreign, you don’t ever really get put in that category as world-class.

He is then asked what about Harry Kane? “But then people go Lewandowski or Benzema. They will always put people above him. His goal record is ridiculous.

“If someone said, your top five world-class players, people don’t naturally go for Harry Kane. He is world-class. He is ridiculous. His goal tally is a joke. If you see now, the passing that he is adding and the assists.

“There was one where he hit the post against West Ham. It got pulled back to him and he’s coming onto it first time with the left foot and he’s just slapped the post. You are like ‘wow’. That just shows the level of what this guy can do.”

There’s no doubt that Kane is a world-class footballer, it’s just a case of putting medals around his neck, so he can shut down any critics who feel he’s not part of the elite because he is yet to win silverware in his career.

Well, the Englishman has the perfect manager in charge, in Jose Mourinho, who is the master at adding trophies to the cabinet because he has done it in every job.

When Mourinho first arrived in London over 15 years ago, as the fresh-faced ‘special one’, he helped Chelsea end their long-awaited trophy drought, it’s just a case of whether that magic is still in his locker.
