Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Arsenal have agreed a ‘£50 million fee’ for Ben White.
BBC Sport report that Brighton rejected two previous bids for the ball-playing centre-back before agreeing on a £50 million deal with Arsenal for their player.
White was a standout performer for the Seagulls last season and those performances saw him earn a call-up to the England national team.
The 23-year-old was actually ‘extensively’ looked at by Liverpool, but they opted to bring in Ibrahima Konate instead from RB Leipzig for £36 million, as reported by Sky Sports.
It also needs to be remembered that Liverpool also paid only £3.5 million for Joe Gomez’s talents back in 2015 (BBC Sport) and purchased Joel Matip for free.
All three combined are still worth a lot less than White, this has been pointed out by the Liverpool fans.
In truth, Arsenal are in a mess and if someone like White can help elevate them then his signing will feel like a bargain.
Yes, prices are inflated in today’s market, unless there is some sort of release clause in the contract like there was with Konate.
But in truth, many forget about the fee paid if the individual in question does their job in hand.
