According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest could hire Nuno Espirito Santo if they decide to sack Steve Cooper.

Cooper’s days at the City Ground could be numbered if reports are to be believed, and a loss against Aston Villa this weekend could well seal his fate.

If Cooper goes, Nuno could be set for a Premier League return, and the former Wolves gaffer’s interest may be piqued by the Forest job due to one player – Morgan Gibbs-White.

Indeed, Nuno worked with Gibbs-White at Wolves, and it’s fair to say that he’s a fan of the midfielder.

Nuno was a fan of Gibbs-White

The ex-Wolves boss has gone on the record about how much he admires Gibbs-White.

“I can understand why people are so excited by him, which is normal, but sometimes people try to rush things which isn’t the best thing to do,” Nuno said.

“He doesn’t have anything which has made him change. He’s the same boy that he already was. He’s humble, a hard worker, willing to learn and improve.

“He played really well against Chelsea, not only him, but the whole team also did a fantastic job.

“He’s a good player now. He has a lot to learn. We have a very young squad, not only Morgan, and the spirit is improving and it should be always, no matter what the result.

Could be the key to unlocking him

Hiring Nuno could be the key to unlocking Morgan Gibbs-White at Forest. After all, the club’s record signing hasn’t quite had the best of starts to life at the City Ground so far.

He’s yet to score for his new club, while he only has one assist to his name, but a reunion with Nuno could help bring him back to his best.

This is a manager that knows him incredibly well, and if he can tap into the talent that he quite clearly has, Forest will have a star on their hands.
