Joachim Low is convinced that Robin Gosens ‘deserves’ his maiden Germany call-up with West Ham United and Leicester City keen on the £27 million-rated Atalanta flyer, speaking to the DFB’s official website.

The late-blooming 26-year-old has been made to wait for the chance to represent the four-time World champions.

Gosens was due to be handed his long-awaited bow during the March international break, only for the global lockdown to scupper those plans.

Six months later, however, the most creative full-back in European football (statistically speaking at least), is set to get his opportunity at last.

With 18 goals and assists last season alone – a tally that blows even Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joshua Kimmich and Jordi Alba out of the water – Gosins is the epitome of this thrilling, free-wheeling Atalanta side.

Considering that Nico Schulz has endured a difficult debut season at Borussia Dortmund, the left-back spot is within Gosens’s grasp just ten months until the the European Championships are due to kick off.

“Robin Gosens is someone who we watched a lot last season. He had a great year in Italy and definitely deserves his call-up,” says Low, who could also hand first caps to Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann and Monchengladbach schemer Florian Neuhaus.

According to the Sun (26 August, page 50), Leicester have identified the £27 million-rated Gosens as the man to replace Chelsea-bound Ben Chilwell at the King Power, with the former Eredivisie ace exactly the kind of attack-minded full-back who tends to thrive under the Foxes boss.

West Ham have also been linked, via Tuttomercatoweb, although it seems unlikely that Gosens will swap a Champions League quarter-finalist for a Hammers side that finished just five points above the relegation zone.
