The intelligent and adaptable Scott Wright would be a ‘good fit’ for Rangers if he swaps Aberdeen for Ibrox, the midfielder’s former Dundee manager Jim McIntyre told the Daily Record.

Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic have a history when it comes to raiding their Scottish Premiership rivals.

But, as Steven Gerrard’s champions-in-waiting look to lure Wright away from Pittodrie, it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old can make the step up a la Glen Kamara or falls foul of exalted expectations like Jordan Jones.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes admitted to the BBC on Tuesday that Rangers had expressed an interest in his contract-rebel attacker.

Wright is due to become a free agent in the summer and McInnes is ‘resigned’ to losing a star player to the team sitting pretty at the top, 21 points clear.

But, as the seldom-seen Jones will tell you, adapting to life at one of Britain’s biggest and most expectant clubs is no cakewalk.

“I loved working with Scott. His attitude was first class right from day one,” said McIntyre, who worked with Wright during the second half of 2018/19 at Dundee.

“There’s no doubt he looked like someone who could develop into a really good player. He’s got very quick feet and is a good thinker.

“He can play out wide but really likes the No.10 position behind the striker. I played him there and Derek has done that a lot this season.

“He could be a good fit for the Rangers system, if that’s where he ends up. He’s got really good game knowledge.”

With Scott Arfield and Ianis Hagi already fighting for a place in Gerrard’s XI, Wright will have his work cut out if he wants to feature in his favoured ‘second striker’ role at Ibrox.
