Redknapp has made plenty of mistakes over the past few months with Spurs, how much of that can be put down to the England speculation?
Ahead of Spurs’ game with Blackburn, we said that if Redknapp could not get his team to muster a result, he may as well quit now and pack his bags for the Ukraine.
Fortunately for supporters, the club won easily to keep their Champions League dreams alive, but many of the fans who responded were definite they wanted Redknapp out regardless of the result.
Now the news Roy Hodgson has been approached by the FA for the vacant Euro 2012 position, Tottenham supporters are facing up the reality of being stuck with him.
Surely the England job was actually becoming a perfect excuse to part ways?
Here are a selection of comments from Spurs fans who yesterday made their feelings known on Redknapp, prior to the game and before the England announcement was made;
‘Alan’: I’ll buy his ticket to the Ukraine right now!
‘Jaymearial’: Redknapps the kind of manager who brings a good side underperforming up to mid table, thats his limit he hasnt got the tactical knowledge to develop a team further…..he should go to Aston Villa, England is far too much for him.
The problem at spurs is he doesnt have the fight, it seems he doesnt care when we lose, Pardew know Newcastle are outsiders for 4th but is giving it everything to get there, Redknapp feels for some reason its Chelseas right to get 4th and Spurs arent big enough for 4th…….I personally hate him but still want us to get 4th for the long term future of the club

So are Spurs stuck with Redknapp? Perhaps a little perspective is needed. He has made big mistakes this season in failing to utilise his squad, and not learning from the club’s late slide last season, but should he be axed completely?
It is one thing allowing him to leave to go to the England job and saying, “OK, we’ll find a new manager,” and looking at it as a positive, but it is another for Daniel Levy to turn around and say to him, “You’re fired”.
The reason why we, and many Tottenham fans have been critical of Redknapp of late is because (a) the results have been bad and (b) it seems as though his mind is not on this job, but the England one and the speculation.
Now this has gone, will Redknapp and the club be able to move on and focus?
The race for the Champions League places is still on, and after Newcastle’s slip-up, Spurs will fancy it. Surely the doom, anger and pessimism at Tottenham’s slide will fade if Tottenham do secure a valuable spot.
Tottenham now have 62 points, the same number they finished on last season, and they still have three games to go. Surely that is positive signs of progress?
If Spurs fans are happy with Redknapp, unlike the ones quoted above who replied to our article yesterday, then the prospect of him staying on is a good one.
If they still want him gone, the England job going to Hodgson may be a golden opportunity missed for the club to move even further forward, and make the big leap to challenge for the title.
The board would either have to get tough and send him packing, or hope the FA come calling once Euro 2012 is over and the World Cup qualifiers begin.
