Everton concluded their transfer business last night with the late arrival of Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City. It was a deal pushed through at the last minute as the toffees looked to strengthen their defensive options. However, despite Mangala being able to operate at left-back, fans at Goodison Park will still be disappointed that a specialist option was not brought in.

Whilst the transfer window may now be shut, that does not mean recruits cannot be found. The free agent market now becomes the go-to for any team short in an area of the pitch.

But is there any value in the left-back market for Everton?

One for sure that should be of interest is French defender Benoit Tremoulinas.

The 32-year-old five-time French international is still without a club after leaving Sevilla in the summer. It comes after a spell on the sidelines with a meniscus injury, but the Telegraph reported he aimed to be back fit by December and, as yet, nobody has picked him up.

He would be short of match fitness, but with Cuco Martina still playing a makeshift role on the left and Leighton Baines out injured his arrival would be welcomed by Everton fans.

This is a player who helped Bordeaux to a double-winning season in 2008-09 and won the Europa League twice with Sevilla during his stint at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

If he is ready to get back to playing then the hardworking and industrious left-back could do more than plug a hole for Everton till the end of the current campaign.
