Michail Antonio was the hero for Jamaica this weekend as the West Ham star scored a crucial goal for the Caribbean nation in their quest to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The attacker, who earns a reported £70,000-a-week with the Hammers, broke through on goal against El Salvidor in the final ten minutes of the match before scoring a brilliant solo effort.

Whilst Antonio struck for Jamaica with eight minutes remaining, the Reggae Boyz were unable to hold on as El Salvidor were able to score in stoppage time to secure a point.

With Jamaica five points off a qualifying spot for Qatar, Antonio’s nation have a mountain to climb in their next seven World Cup qualifiers. With the USA and Mexico setting the tempo in the group.

It’s been 23 years since Jamaica’s last appearance in a World Cup, and Antonio and company face the difficult task of qualifying it to Qatar. Even with some impressive names in the squad such as Leon Bailey, Kemar Roofe and Andre Blake.

Antonio will no doubt be gutted about El Salvidor’s late goal against Jamaica. But for West Ham fans on social media, they are buzzing that their no. 9 was on the scoresheet.
