Tottenham Hotspur’s academy is seemingly a never ending production line of top talent, and the latest star threatening to break through is full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

Walker-Peters signed a new deal at the club yesterday tying him down until 2019, the club announced.

The 19-year-old is a full-back and faces a tough task to break through with Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier all competing for places, but the youngster is thrilled to be a part of the squad for now.

He has been involved as a substitute in recent cup games and could stand a chance of featuring against Fulham in the FA Cup this weekend.

The best element of Walker-Peter’s potential breakthrough are his ties to the area, and he really is ‘one of Tottenham’s own’.

He told the club website: “My long-term goal is definitely to play for Tottenham. I’m a Spurs fan, I was born at North Middlesex Hospital, I’ve grown up in Tottenham and I’ve supported the club all my life.

“I joined the club at 10 years old so it would be a massive honour to play and hopefully start a game one day, but that all starts from the training pitch so I need to keep improving and eventually prove to the gaffer that I’m worthy of a chance.”

Walker-Peters is a fan on the verge of realising his dream to play for the club he supports, and that passion should translate on the field.

He added that he had taken inspiration from Harry Winks’ progression to the first team this season, who has risen through an equally crowded selection of midfield rivals to stake a claim for a regular spot in the matchday squad.

It is only a matter of time before Walker-Peters gets his chance, and he could be a player who goes onto become a real crowd favourite.
