Japhet Tanganga will be staying at Tottenham Hotspur for the long haul but, as his agent tells Radio Punto Nuovo, taking the defender to Napoli would be a ‘dream’.
While it is fair to say Jose Mourinho does not have a particularly impressive track record when it comes to putting his faith in unproven youngsters, the Hackney-born 21-year-old owes his rapid rise to the Spurs boss.
After all, few in north London knew anything about Tanganga before he was thrown in at the deep end during a Premier League clash against Liverpool back in January.
The England U20 international went from an U23 regular to first-team star almost overnight, starting against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and RB Leipzig before being rewarded with a well-deserved five-year contract.
But while Tanganga looks like the present and the future of Tottenham’s backline under Mourinho, agent Roberto di Fanti has plans of his own.
“(Tanganga) has almost unique features: combining physical gifts, speed and technique. The only problem is that we have decided to stay with the Spurs, extending the contract until 2024,” said Di Fanti, Sunderland’s former director of football, translated by Corriere dello Sport.

“ Any potential suitor will have to deal with the London management. Obviously we all know the history of Napoli and for me, as an Italian, it would be a dream to bring Japhet there one day.”
Di Fanti’s comments are unlikely to go down too well with Mourinho or Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
But, while Spurs have already found themselves on the wrong side of one transfer saga this year when Christian Eriksen forced through a move to Inter Milan, do not expect Tanganga to follow in the Dane’s footsteps any time soon.
