Pascal Gross has been speaking to Sport1 about his admiration for Jürgen Klopp when asked if he would like to join the German at Liverpool.
What’s the story?
Well, the 31-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2022/23 campaign for Brighton.
Gross has scored three goals and provided two assists in six Premier League appearances so far this term, which has – unsurprisingly – prompted questions about his future.
The German has a contract with Brighton until June 2024.
Liverpool have been tentatively linked with Gross ever since his £3m move to the Amex Stadium from Ingolstadt in 2017, and when asked whether he’d play for Klopp, the Brighton No.13 said: “I’m a normal, down-to-earth guy. I’m happy where I am now. The Champions League is a dream, but you also have to look at what’s important to you.

“I have a lot of respect for Jürgen Klopp. He is a coach that everyone looks up to. What he achieves in his clubs is breathtaking. But I’m realistic about that, too. I don’t think that will happen.”
Interestingly, Adam Lallana revealed in 2021 that Gross often asks him about what life at Anfield is like.
However, on the basis of his comments, the Brighton maestro clearly doubts a move to Liverpool will materialise.
Liverpool should make move for Pascal Gross
In our view, Liverpool could do a lot worse than sign Gross in the summer of 2023 – for the right price.
By that point, the German will only have 12 months left on his contract with Brighton, so a fairly cheap deal could be done if the attacking midfielder expresses a desire to join the Reds.
You may think Liverpool can aim higher. However, Liverpool need quantity as well as quality next summer with Klopp’s midfield set to become even weaker.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita are all out of contract in 2023, while Arthur will also return to Juventus when his loan expires.
With talk of a big-money move for Jude Bellingham, Klopp may need to take advantage of cut-price opportunities like Gross to pad out his midfield department, as we do not expect Fenway Sports Group to sanction many lucrative transfers.
