Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told BBC Sport that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s is a ‘disaster’.
Alexander-Arnold went down appearing to clutch his calf in the second-half of Liverpool’s game with City yesterday.
There are now fears that the right-back could be sidelined for some time.
And Guardiola felt that the Liverpool player’s injury had come due to a lack of protection from the Premier League.
Clubs in England’s top flight voted against using five substitutes this season, which has meant that players can’t be rotated as often as they are across Europe.
And Guardiola thinks that the decision is turning out to be a really poor one now.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold, international English player, now injured,” Guardiola fumed.
“Here we believe we are more special, we don’t protect the players, so that is why it is a disaster. This calendar came from a year before and I will demand for players to come back otherwise it will be difficult to maintain it.”

Alexander-Arnold’s injury could indeed by a disaster for Liverpool, as it has come at a terrible time.
The Reds are already suffering badly with injuries, with the likes of Thiago and Virgil van Dijk also sidelined.
Liverpool and City ended up playing out a 1-1 draw, but both sides visibly tired in the second half, which adds further strength to Guardiola’s comment that both teams would have benefited from having additional subs available.
