Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been speaking about Leeds United and the impact certain players have on the team.

The Whites have been a completely different side this season. They’ve gone from being comfortably mid-table to being relegation battlers, and they look like a completely different side.

Wright says that the difference in Leeds is understandable due to the absence of Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford this season, and to be honest, he’s right.

What’s been said?

Wright gave his view on Leeds.

“His spine was sitting in the stands, that must have something to do with something. When Kalvin Phillips isn’t playing, they’re just a different team, when Patrick Bamford isn’t playing they’re a different team. What he does up top for them, closing down, scoring goals. And then with Kalvin Phillips in the middle, dictating the play, plugging the gaps. He was missing those players,” Wright said.

Understandable

Leeds have looked a different team without Phillips and Bamford in the side, and to be honest, that’s absolutely understandable.

Phillips is arguably their best player and Bamford is their top goalscorer, if you take two players like that out of any team they’ll look completely different.

Just look at how Liverpool struggled without Virgil van Dijk last season. Imagine if they were also without Mohamed Salah, they’d probably have fallen even further down the table.

Luckily for Leeds, Phillips and Bamford should be back in the coming weeks.
