Nick Pope has reacted on Twitter to the viral trend started by a Newcastle United supporter account.

Problem is, it’s a different Nick Pope.

The Newcastle goalkeeper is trending on the massive social media website.

A Twitter account called Toon Polls hijacked a poll by Burger King which asked its legion of followers to decide between ‘Tomato or Gherkin’.

The winner of the poll was, surprisingly, ‘Nick Pope’.

That’s what thousands of Newcastle and neutral supporters have been tweeting in recent hours, stemming from the responses to the Burger King discussion.

Since then, enormous, globally-recognised brands like McDonalds and Dominos Pizza among others have joined in on the fun.

There’s been radio silence from the Magpies goalkeeper himself, but a different Nick Pope – one based in Arizona, claiming to be a UFO expert – has reacted to the barrage of tweets about his namesake.

Nick Pope Twitter trend

The former Burnley stopper, who joined Eddie Howe’s side earlier this summer, will no doubt be focusing on United’s visit to Brighton & Hove Albion tomorrow and might not react personally to the trend.

However, there’s no doubt that the England international is aware of how regularly his name is being tweeted and it’ll be fascinating to see his stake on it.

It’s quite probable that this Pope is just as perplexed and confused as the United States-based one.
