Rio Ferdinand has claimed on Instagram that Liverpool midfielder, Jordan Henderson, is ‘a credit to the football club’.
It’s been ten years to the day that Liverpool signed the 30-year-old, who has since gone onto write his name into the legendary books on Merseyside.
When Henderson first arrived from Sunderland, he struggled in a Liverpool shirt as he seemingly found it difficult to deal with the pressure of being on the big stage.
But as the years kicked on, and more so when Jurgen Klopp joined the club, Henderson has looked like a different animal.
Henderson will go down in history because he will be known as the first Liverpool captain to lead them to the title after 30 years, and with it, achieve something Anfield greats, such as Steven Gerrard didn’t manage to accomplish.
Nonetheless, this is the message Henderson sent to Reds supporters about his ten years at the club.
Several players, both current and former, sent their congratulations to the England international, including Ferdinand, who wrote: “Congrats mate! Been a credit to the football club and much more to come!!”
Dejan Lovren also sent a message to his former teammate: “What a journey Hendo. All your hard work paid off and still a lot of things to achieve. Beast mentality. Miss you brother.”
If there ever was a Liverpool player that epitomised Jurgen Klopp’s character, style and nature as a manager then it’s Henderson out on the field.
There’s a reason why he wears the captain’s armband, but his full focus will now be on Euro 2020.
Henderson is the only Liverpool playing repping their colours for England, with Trent Alexander-Arnold having to pull out with a late injury and Joe Gomez being injured since the back end of 2020.
