Craig Bellamy has offered his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino following the sacking of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho the head coach

Craig Bellamy believes Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino will find it ‘very difficult’ to turn down the Manchester United job because ‘they are a different club to most’ as he pointed towards their large fanbase.

Manchester United confirmed on their official website on Tuesday morning that Mourinho had been relieved of his duties after two and a half years at the club.

Following Mourinho’s departure, there has been a lot of talk about who will replace the Portuguese coach in the Old Trafford hot seat – Gary Neville told Sky Sports that Pochettino would be the ‘perfect fit’ for his former side.

As a result of that speculation, more former players have weighed in with their opinions and former Liverpool forward Bellamy explained why Pochettino cannot turn down the available role if it was offered to him.

“I can see them going for Pochettino,” Bellamy told Sky Sports News on 18/12/2018 at 18:25 pm. “It’s going to cost them a lot of money, but I believe Manchester United [will go for Pochettino].

“No, course he is [settled at Tottenham], they are a great club. But it is still Manchester United, you are talking about 680 million fans worldwide. They are a different club to most and very difficult for anyone to turn down. It’s difficult because Pochettino is an incredible manager, he is at a brilliant football club, but like I said it is still Manchester United. Very difficult to turn down.”

Whoever takes over the reins at Old Trafford will be tasked with closing down the mammoth 19 point lead between United and current Premier League leaders Liverpool.

In what turned out to be Mourinho’s last game, Liverpool inflicted a damaging and comprehensive defeat on their bitter rivals over the weekend to widen the gap between the two clubs.

At this moment in time, Pochettino will be preparing his side for a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against neighbours Arsenal which takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
